Dr. Filippo M. Perna received his degree in "Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology" in 1999 at University of Bari discussing a thesis on the "The Enantioselective Addition of Organometals to Aldehydes"(supervisor Professor Francesco Naso). 
In 1998 he started his PhD course in Applied Chemical and Enzymatic Synthesis at the Medicinal-Chemistry Department of the University of Bari under Prof. S. Florio's supervision . 
During the PhD he has been visiting schoolar at University of Oviedo in Spain working in the group of Prof. José Barluenga on Conjugate Nucleophilic Addition of Lithiated Chloroalkyloxazolines and Oxazolinyloxiranes to a,b-Unsatureted Fischer Carbene Complexes. In March 2004 he received his PhD discussing a thesis on "The formation of carbon-carbon bonds mediated from metalated oxazolines and oxiranes".
He worked at project research FIRB: "Design, preparation and pharmacological and biological evaluation of new organic molecules as potential new drugs in the treatment of common and rare diseases". Medicinal-Chemistry Department at the University of Bari, 9 February 2004 - July 15 2006 Scientific Supervisor: Prof. S Florio
In July 2006 he became assistant professor in organic chemistry at University of Bari (Medicinal-Chemistry Department; Faculty of Pharmacy). 

TEACHING ACTIVITY: "Organic Chemistry" for the degree course in Herbal Medicine (3-year degree course), 2008-present.
He is a member of the committee of the school of doctorate in “Applied Chemical and Enzymatic Synthesis” at the University of Bari.

His current RESEARCH INTERESTS are focused on reactivity of alpha-lithiated and ortho-lithiated aryloxiranes and their use in the development of new synthetic methodologies for stereoselective syntheses; mechanisms of racemization of chiral organolithiums; NMR structural investigation of lithiated oxiranes; Dynamic Kinetic Resolution (DKR) and Dynamic thermodynamic Resolution (DTR) of lithiated aryloxiranes.
