Renzo Luisi was born in Luxembourg (EU) in 1971. After his diploma at the high school in 1990, he started a work experience as an analytical chemist in a wine factory until 1994 while studying chemistry at the faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Bari. In 1996, he received the degree (cum laude) in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Bari and, in 2000, the PhD in Chemical Sciences at the same University under the supervision of Prof. Saverio Florio. In 1999, was Visiting Scholar at the Roger Adams Lab. of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign working in the group of Prof. Peter Beak on organolithium chemistry and stereoselective syntheses. In 2001 was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Bari and in 2005 promoted to Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the same University. Teaching duties: 2005-current: Chair of physical methods in organic chemistry for undergradauate students of the degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology. Other teaching duties for undergraduate, and PhD students: Organic Chemistry I and II, Heterocyclic Chemistry, Advanced NMR techniques for structure elucidation. Institutional duties: Member of the Safety Commission and Regulatory Commission of the Department "Farmaco - Chimico". Member of the committee of the school of doctorate in “Applied Chemical and Enzymatic Synthesis” of the University of Bari. Referee for MIUR-italian Ministry of University and Research. Member of the academic spin-off "Synchimia materials and nanomaterials"
Research Interests: - Development of new stereoselective synthetic methodologies by using organometallic reagents. - Structure elucidation of reactive intermediates by Multinuclear Magnetic Resonance (MMR). - Molecular dynamics of aziridines and small molecules. - Preparation of new reagents and molecular architectures to function as molecular switch, sensors and for molecular recognition. - Development of microflow synthesis by using the microreactor technology. He has been co-author of monographs, reviews and about 70 publications on peer reviewed journals and attended numerous national and international conferences. Organization: One-Day Symposium on “Advances in Organolithium Chemistry”, Bari (I) 2010. The Research Night, Bari (I) 2008. 2nd Symposium on Heterocyclic Chemistry, Bari (I) 2006. 2nd Trans-Mediterranean Colloquium on Heterocyclic Chemistry (TRAMECH), Bari (I) 2002. Besides organic chemistry he enjoy reading, motorcycle, scuba diving and to taste national and international wines. As social activity he acts as volunteer teacher for kids. |
